Substance Use Disorder
Substance-Use Disorders are patterns of symptoms resulting from the use of a substance that you continue to take despite negative consequences. These disorders can be related to alcohol, drugs (whether legal or prescribed) as well as other substances. Other terms used for substance-use disorder include addiction, substance abuse and chemical abuse.
Substance abuse frequently occurs along with mental illness and is referred to as co-occurring, dual diagnosis or MICA (mentally ill chemical abuser).
